At New Year we often make our resolutions for the coming year. We decide what we want to stop, what we want to improve or change. How often do we simply look at ourselves and say, "This is who I am and I am just going to be more of myself and share more of myself?" Perhaps it's time to stop resolving and start celebrating? After all, how long do we manage to keep those resolutions?
For many 2012 is a time of fear. We are already being warned that this will be a year of failing economies, more job losses etc. For many that is true. However, Johnn has taught me that we always have a choice. We can focus on what we can change or on what we cannot. I find this verse from the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi invaluable in allowing me to remain in the moment.
Oh God, grant me the courage to change the things I can,
the serenity to accept the things I can't
and the wisdom to know the difference.
I always begin the year with a new phrase for the year. In 2000, my phrase was “Are we having fun yet?” It is surprising how that simple phrase used regularly enabled me to step out of obligation and responsibility as my way of operating and into doing for the joy of it all. I made it a question so that I could maintain awareness of where I was standing. This year I am choosing another phrase and it will become my catchphrase.
It is “Am I truly being Me?”
This is a year of celebrating our uniqueness and if I am not truly being me than how can I do so? We are taught that we become what we give our attention to. If our focus is how we truly see ourselves as being then we become what we see. Then we live Be Who You Be whilst simultaneously Accepting All That Is. When these two are experienced it becomes much easier to Live as Community.
Let’s put into practice the wealth of information we have learned and BE the fullness of who we are. Then we can create and celebrate together a world of diversity operating with joy, compassion and acceptance.
In other words - a world of Unconditional Love.
